APFNet Demonstration and Training Base for Sustainable Forests Management officially launched

On May 15th, 2020, the inception ceremony of APFNet Demonstration and Training Base for Sustainable Forests Management project has launched in Wanzhangshan Forest Farm, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province. More than 60 representatives and Officials from APFNet Secretariat, Yunnan Forestry and Grassland Administration, Pu'er City and Simao district Government, APFNet-KTC and other agencies attended this event.

Launch ceremony was chaired by Mr. Dao Kangming, (Director of Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Pu'er City), Dr. Lu De, (Executive Director  of APFNet ), Mr. Xu Zhijiang (Director of International Cooperation Office, Forestry and Grassland Administration of Yunnan Province), Mr. Li Rong (Vice Mayor of Pu'er City) have delivered remarks.

During the ceremony, Dr. Lu De said that establishment of an APFNet Demonstration and Training Base for Sustainable Forest Management in Whanzhangshan Forest Farm, Pu'er City, it aims to demonstrate, successful best practices and models of sustainable forest management (SFM) of tropical and sub-tropical area in Asia & Pacific Region , as well as to promote capacity building on SFM based on previous APFNet Integrated Forest Ecosystem Management Planning and Demonstration Project in the Greater Mekong Sub-region(GMS).

The demonstration and training base locates at Wanzhangshan Forests Farm in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province of China, which covers an area of 3,184.27 hm2. Following the operational concept for the openness, diversification and the sustainability, 1333.3 hm2 (20000 mu) of forest sustainable management demonstrated pilot will be established, and wooden buildings like Yunnan Houses, APFNet Training Base, Youth House, Camping Grounds and Ecological Literature/Culture Creation Campus will also be constructed as the important associate facilities .  

This demonstration and training base is planning to be completed at end of 2020, it could be an important platform to provide a training, experiences sharing and exchanging activity for forestry officials and policy makers in Asia-Pacific economies in order to promote regional capability on sustainable forest management and the roles of forestry in the construction of ecological civilization.
